Substrates

In the last two years, we have drastically reduced the percentage of peat in 90% of our substrates.

Our growing substrates must ensure the anchoring of the plant, possess satisfactory drainage capacity and stability, sufficient oxygenation, be free of pathogens, pests, and toxic substances, and have standardized specific chemical and physical characteristics.

All these characteristics have been preliminarily analyzed and tested to achieve the ideal composition guaranteed by our suppliers.

Traditionally, the soil used in Pistoia productions contained up to 50% peat.

To preserve the precious habitats of peatlands, terrestrial carbon reservoirs, in the last two years, we have drastically reduced the percentage of peat in 90% of our substrates, which are now composed of: wood fiber, produced from PEFC-certified wood chips, 100% renewable; coconut fiber and pith, waste materials derived from coconut cultivation.
